Understanding Qigong - Small Circulation With Dr Yang, Jwing-Ming

"Understanding Qigong: Small Circulation" with Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming is the fifth DVD of a remarkable six DVD set on Qigong. The series is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of this ancient Chinese practice. This volume focuses on the theory of Small Circulation Qigong meditation, which can improve your general health, and is a fundamental step in the practice of spiritual enlightenment meditation. This DVD contains some complex material. Dr. Yang explains a lot about anatomy and difficult theories, and you won't be able to absorb everything in just one viewing. This DVD also includes a little about the differences between Daoist and Buddhist practices. It's also a very long DVD, so it is probably better studied in segments. Personally, I watched the entire DVD through once, and now I'll go back and review segments to broaden my understanding. (I've done the same with the first 4 DVDs of this set too - watch through and then will go back to review
in segments) I also think that some of the concepts Dr. Yang discusses in this lecture will be harder for Westerners to grasp than some of the other DVDs in this series. This is some overlap among the DVDs in this set. So at times, Dr. Yang discusses concepts that were covered in a different DVD. (Things such as the Third Eye, the 12 Meridians, Vessels, yin, yang, etc.) However, he discusses these in a different context. This assists in learning the deeper theory behind Qigong practice and how many of the concepts are related. I also like Dr. Yang's descriptions and examples. The example regarding "holding up" made me laugh. But it described what he was explaining well.Dr. Yang also discusses orientation during meditation. He discusses the differences between facing and not facing the sun at various times of the day, and why you would want to face the sun or not while you meditate. He continues by discussing the North and South poles and the magnetic fields and how they relat
e to your meditation.Dr. Yang then explains how to perform small circulation Qigong meditation. This is not as easy to perform as some Qigong exercises and breathing drills. Dr. Yang states that it will take a while and you can't rush it. (A while can be years) Therefore, this DVD is one for serious students that either want to just understand more about this kind of Qigong, or who want to put in the time to utilize Dr. Yang's teachings in their own practice. After explaining the theory of performing the practice, Dr. Yang illustrates the practice so you can see it. Doing this, he also discusses tips to help you with your own practice. I found the tips and suggestions to be very practical and useful. The instructional program ends at three hours and ten minutes, but then there are a few minutes of Dr. Yang meditating, and then a scene of a candle with subtitles telling you how to use a candle to assist your mediation. Then there are a few minutes of just the candle burning. C
redits roll at three hours and twenty minutes. The DVD also contains YMAA extras. This is another information packed DVD on the deeper understanding of Qigong practice. I believe the entire series is a must for anyone who wants a deep understanding of Qigong and who is serious about his or her study and practice.
