He is one of the few writers who can present historical facts in a way that appeals to the mass market of readers. In other words, history written by Simon is an exciting read.His approach to writing this book is a creative one. He does not lay down historical events in chronological order. Instead he presents snippets of historical facts and narrative, and then ties them all down with a clearer message at the end. Thus, you will not be reading a list of dates, and the summary of what happened during each of them.Content-wise, he tackles a variety of issues in his book including the role of religion in American politics. He also writes about the role of violence in the history of America, especially against local minorities like the Cherokees, and foreign minorities like the Mexicans and Chinese.Some pr
etty serious reading, if you ask me. However, the author manages to insert the humor he is famous for in his personal commentaries on historical events. The biggest selling point of this book is that is has an overall positive outlook on the multiculturalism of America, and the future of the American people.The author's strong support for President Barrack Obama and the new America he will usher in is definitely another plus. In this time of economic and health crises, we need hope that tomorrow will be better. The American Future- A History by Simon Schama is one book that expresses this strongly.
