What do Golden Apples - 6 Simple Steps To Success have in common?Let me explain."Apples" is a perfect acronym and a reminder to me (and hopefully you the reader)of steps to take to improve my life, my career, my business and the lives of others. The idea comes from two books, written by Bill Cullen, the Irish Entrepreneur who went from selling Apples on the streets of Dublin to becoming the legendary head of Renault Ireland."It's A Long Way From Penny Apples" & "Golden Apples-6 Simple Steps To Success" are wonderful books, truly inspirational and motivational, I highly recommend them.A Is for Attitude - our whole approach to life, the way we live, the things we do and the way we treat others can make a huge difference to the final outcome of our achievements, whether in our personal life or business life. So have a Positive Attitude and see the difference it makes.P Is for Plan - this is your plan of action. If you have decided to do something today, don't just think abou
t doing it, do it. Get the priorities done, focus on the positives and dump the negatives. Realise that how you use your time will dictate your achievements in life.P Is for People Power - It's all about people. There are not many things in this world that cost nothing, but you know what - it costs nothing to be nice. Take good care of people, help them, make them feel worthwhile and special. Give good customer care in your business dealings. After all, "what goes around - comes around". You will reap what you sow.L Is for Learning - Everyday, whether we realise it or not we learn something new. It may be something as simple as learning to be more tolerant, more patient, more positive or it could be something we have learned to further our career or business. One of the best ways to create opportunities in your life and career is to become as good as you possibly can at what you do. Know it inside out and be better than your colleagues and competitors. Learn to be the person
people will come to for advice and guidance. That's one way to become a leader and a mentor.E Is for Energy - Ignite your energy to excel at all that you do. A positive attitude is a good starting point, if you feel good about yourself, good about what you are doing, you can ignite your energy and put it to good use throughout the day.S Is for Success - Now, we can't all be successful all of the time, but if you excel at what you do, exceed peoples expectations (and sometimes your own) it's amazing how people will be attracted to you and like and respect you. Stand out from the crowd, let people know who you are. Be honest, sincere and a person with integrity.Success in life or business are not forgone conclusions and the steps we take to achieve a successful outcome can depend on many different things but I think most of all it depends on the choices we make, the approach we take and most importantly the attitude we have.I went to see Bill Cullen a few years ago doing one
of his motivational talks and I've admired him ever since - his life story is an inspiration. If you ever get the chance to see him, please do go.The next time you bite into an apple, let it become a reminder to you of the 6 Simple Steps To Success. In the words of Henry Ford - "If You Believe You Can Or You Can't - You're Right!"
