Romance Books - The MacKenzies by Linda Howard

Linda Howard mainly writes solo novels. Sometimes there are connecting characters but not really series as such. Most authors these days seem to be writing series books, the authors I have been enjoying anyway.I have noticed when I visit a place like Fantastic Fiction they group some books from Linda Howard into series. While it's true that there are certain connecting characters and themes they are pushing it with some of those matches. There is one series however that Linda Howard did write and it was a very popular series at that. The MacKenzies! She wrote them while writing category romances for Silhouette and they are still great reads to this day. In fact I have the first one MacKenzie's Mountain as my top favorite Linda Howard book. There are five books in the Mackenzies, here is the reading order:1. MacKenzie's Mountain (1989)2. MacKenzie's Mission (1992)3. MacKenzie's Pleasure (1996)4. MacKenzie's Magic (1996)5. A Game of Chance (2000)The first is the best in my opinio
n. In fact I enjoy them in the order listed. MacKenzie's Mountain is about Wolf MacKenzie and a school teacher Mary. Wolf is half Apache with a teenage son. Wolf was arrested for a crime he never committed but was acquitted after some time spent in jail when they finally caught the true culprit but the town folk still treated him like a criminal. The following stories are about their children.MacKenzie's Mission is about Wolf's oldest son Joe, who in MacKenzie's Mountain Mary helped realize his dream to fly by making him see the wisdom of continuing with his studies. Joe also has some demons left over from when his father was in jail.MacKenzie's Pleasure is about Zane, Wolf and Mary's son who becomes a Navy Seal. He rescues Barrie Lovejoy from terrorists.MacKenzie's Magic was originally a short story written in an anthology about Wolf and Mary's only daughter, Maris. It is now available on it's own and A Game of Chance is about their adopted son Chance. As I said, this series
was incredibly popular and the one character readers were screaming out to have their own story was Chance. It took awhile for his story to be realized. In fact, I didn't think it was going to happen as Linda Howard had left writing category romances at this stage and was solely writing novels. But finally in 2000 A Game of Chance was released.Personally, I don't think Linda Howard's heart was in it. It's not one of her best books, but it does finish off the MacKenzies and it was a reasonable read.
