What Are Angels?

Angels are mentioned many times in the Bible including 305 times in 34 books. By their own free will they have divided themselves into good angels and bad angels. They are known as guardians, rescuers, messengers and avengers.Good angels appear only in relation to God and humanity in the role of servants. The Greek word "angelos" describes the function or duty of angels rather than their nature or in other words the term tells us what angels do and not what they are. In general, angels are there to do God's bidding. Thus their roles include protectors of people, messengers or to proclaim news from God. They may also be guides or guardians such as used frequently today as " my guardian angel" is watching over me.One of the major functions of angels is the protection of the faithful. Thus when one of the bad angels are near, the good angels protect us from impending harm.As protectors of the divine will, angels play certain roles closely allied with divine attributes. Unlike hu
man beings, angels can see God and their vision leads to praise and worship of God There service of God is emphasized in their prostration and worship before the divine throne. The Bible doesn't tell us how angels complete their tasks or even how they appear. As inhabitants of the kingdom of heaven, they are spiritual beings but they are also able to be agents in the empirical world. Several of the stories of angels in the Bible make the angels appear so like humans that they are not recognized as angels. Because of this quality, they are able to assume human likeness and are able to affect human events. In some instances, angels in the Bible are so close to human forms that they can't be distinguished as anything other than human. In other instances, angels are recognized as angels and evoke deep respect from humans.Angels are marvelous creatures and the Bible is careful to relegate angels to their rightful place in the created order and not confuse them with God. Because t
hey are divine messnegers, angels are placed in the intermediate realm between God and humans. Even though they are beyond human understanding, they are created and not eternal.Through the divine testimonies of angels, we humans can honor God's holy word and justify our own profession of faith. These happy, holy and immortal beings are sent to serve those who will inherit salvation through the grace of God.So as the Bible says do not neglect to be kind to your neighbor as you may be in the presence of an angel.
