The Pulp Fiction Revival of "The Phantom Patrol"

This Sea Adventure story was originally published in "Five-Novels Monthly" magazine, in January of 1935, and tells the story of Chief Petty Officer Johnny Trescott who gets captured by pirates and drug runners during an attempt to rescue a downed plane. While Officer Trescott and his crew are out chasing down a notorious cut throat drug runner in the Gulf of Mexico, Trescott's patrol boat receives an SOS from a sinking downed plane. If Johnny does not act with the utmost speed, the passengers on the private plane may lose their lives. Unfortunately, the dope-smuggling pirate he's been chasing hears the same SOS, and greets Johnny and his crew at the scene of the crash with a sinister plan. A battle ensues but the drug-runners prevail in commandeering Trescott's boat and take the crew and passengers from the plane as prisoners. To make matters worse the captain's uniform has also been taken and is worn by the pirate drug -runner as a ploy to stop and raid other ships in the gul
f.Trescott escapes only to find himself prisoner again by the authorities who believe he is the one committing the crimes. He must escape again to bring to justice the pirates who are terrorizing the other ships and restore his good name."The Phantom Patrol" is one of the stories in the library of Stories from the Golden Age of pulp fiction that Galaxy Press Publishing is preserving and re-releasing on a monthly basis. It features the best of L. Ron Hubbard's fiction from the heyday of storytelling in the 1930s to the 1950s. It is a collection of 153 stories in eighty volumes and unabridged full cast cinema quality audio books. The pulps were printed on a high acid paper and were not meant to have longevity so many of the original pulp stories are crumbling to dust. With many of the pulps being redone by Galaxy Press, adults and children alike can experience the flavor and nostalgia of the Golden Age of Pulp Fiction. When Hubbard wrote "The Phantom Patrol," he did so with his
own experiences of his stint as a merchant marine. This experience and his love of writing gave him an edge in sea-faring adventure stories. In all, he wrote eight sea-adventure novels but by no means did he stop there. He was equally versed in several other genres such as mystery, science fiction and fantasy, westerns and even some romance. The Phantom Patrol is a well written story with unexpected twists and turns with vividly portrayed characters that keep you absorbed in the story. The audio book is multicast, unabridged and 2 hours long, perfect for long commutes or listening to when you want to go adventuring. The full cast version features Phil Proctor. It also stars R.F. Daley, Shane Johnson, Jim Meskimen, Kristin Proctor, Thomas Silcott and Michael Yurchak. Each production is packed with music and cinema-quality sound effects. If you have never read any of the pulp fiction stories 'The Phantom Patrol" is a good a place to acquaint yourself with them. Just as old Holly
wood has its own flavor, so do the pulp stories.
