Capable of competitive print speeds and excellent gray scale image quality, the Gestetner 3220 offers plenty of power and expandability suitable for offices of every size. The unit not only comes standard with a long list of versatile specifications, but also offers extensive hardware add ons for customization and optimal performance per dollar.With a 20 page per minute print speed, the Gestetner 3220 may not be the fastest copy machine on the block, but should still prove sufficient for most businesses' print and copy demands. Further showing signs of its age, it reveals only a 14.4 Kbps modem, which can still hustle along at a decent 4 seconds per page transmission time.Resolution also ranks on the mediocre level, with a limited 400 dots per inch when printing at maximum speed; much lower than the current PCL6 standard. A negative to positive option allows users to reverse the polarity of an image, making a visual that would normally consume large amounts of ink use only a fraction of the amount by replacing all black areas with blank space, and vice versa.With electronic sorting and an auto tray select mode, multiple copies of output packets can be sorted automatically, and even stapled if a finisher option is implemented. Up to 50 individual user codes can be programmed to keep personal projects safe under lock and key, ensuring  privacy from coworkers or separate departments.The Gestetner 3220's standard paper capacity of 500 sheets via 2 x 250 sheet drawers is only the beginning. An additional 2 x 500 sheets can supplement stock hardware bringing the total to 1,000 sheets, and a huge 1,500 sheet LCT is also optional. A 100 sheet bypass tray for non standard media types is attachable, along
with other expandability options that bring the unit's total potential input capacity to a whopping 2,850 sheets.For higher print quality, a 600 dot per inch mode is selectable, but top print speed will suffer, and a standard printer interface for PC connectivity allows the Gestetner 3220 to double as a personal or network printer. Thanks to on board memory, a fax module can scan pages into memory and save them during paper outage scenarios or, when an additional duplexing unit is implemented, convert them into double sided output regardless of the incoming source. Documents can then be erased, or stored indefinitely for further use.Book faxing is also an option, and the duplexing feature is not limited to faxes alone. Copies and prints are also available in duplex mode, and, unlike lower end units, the Gestetner 3220's duplexer can go beyond legal sized paper, and duplex sizes up to 11 x 17 inches.
