So, you've decided you need a new portable PC and you're going for a HP machine. The question now is, do you look at the range of HP netbooks available, or do you go for one of the many laptops in their considerable range? Both have their merits and drawbacks, so ultimately your choice will come down to one of personal preference and suitability for your needs.
Firstly, think about what you actually need from your machine. If you'd like to be able to run a number of applications at once, watch movies, edit photos and play games, then HP netbooks are not right for you as they don't have the multifunctional capabilities of laptops. However, if all you want is a machine that allows you to surf the web, email and store small files like word documents, spreadsheets and your favourite music playlist, then they make the ideal choice. Think of them as an accompaniment to your home or work computer rather than its replacement.
HP netbooks are compact and extremely lightweight which means they will fit into most briefcases and good sized handbags. This makes them perfect if you work on the go or find yourself travelling around a lot for business. You won't even need to buy a special carry case for them, although you can purchase special protective skins to prevent scratching. All HP netbooks come with built in wi-fi allowing you to connect to the internet wherever access is available.
In terms of size, the screen dimensions of HP netbooks range from about 10 to 12 inches. High Definition screens are also available. The keyboard will naturally be a bit smaller than that of a laptop but otherwise has all the same functionality. And if you'd like to use your netbook for Skype or other types of chat you can purchase HP netbooks with built in mini webcams. So, as you can see, though they're small they do have lots going for them.
Now, let's talk money! Not having the multifunctional capabilities of its bigger laptop brother, the netbook is, obviously, less expensive. Prices start from as little as £215 and go up to about £500 or £600 depending on spec.
As with most purchases like this, before you make any firm decisions your best bet is to shop around and do lots of research on different HP netbooks so you can be sure you're getting the best deal possible. Decide what your netbook must have and what it would be nice to have as an extra then, if possible, see a few in the flesh before you buy. Pop into your nearest high street store and ask for a quick intro so you can see exactly what you're buying. Then if you come across one you like the look of, see if you can get a good deal online. There are lots of very reputable online sellers whose aftercare and customer care policy will be just as reliable as a high street seller. Just make sure you're comfortable that you've found a good one before you commit to buying!
