"Mona Lisa Darkening" number four in the Monère series doesn't do much to advance the plot but it's entertaining - a paranormal fix that has become a guilty addiction for me. Mona Lisa is evolving as an appealing heroine: bold, brave and sexy as sin. In this chapter, she finds herself in real danger. There's more than enough action as well as some erotic sex scenes that readers have come to expect. The heroine is the Mixed-Blood Queen of the Monère, the Children of the Moon, who derive energy from basking in the moonlight. Her domain is the Louisiana Bayou. On the night of the vernal equinox, when the barriers between worlds become thin, she gathers her people under the full moon. Instead of drawing its replenishing white light, darkness envelopes her and she's transported to NetherHell, the realm of the damned. Gordane, a Gargoyle rogue warlord captures her and he's determined to keep her as his consort. And the essence of the evil queen she once defeated, Mona
Louisa, now shares her body. Halcyon, her demon mate and Gryphon, her first love, who was killed by Mona Louisa, will cross all boundaries to rescue her, but even they can't save her from a great loss. The complex world of the Monère is best enjoyed if you read the books in order. This time around, I thought Sunny did a good job building the world of NetherHell and the Gargoyles were a welcome addition. There was more focus on action and plot than in previous books, resulting in less sex scenes. Unresolved questions remain so hopefully there will be another chapter in the world of the Monère.Publisher: Berkley (January 6, 2009)ISBN: 978-0-425-22647-6Paperback: 304 PagesPrice: $7.99
