Serena Cox, the eight year old published author from Arkansas is anything but typical. Somewhat of a 'tomboy', she enjoys roller skating, softball, climbing trees and swimming. At the same time, it wouldn't be a surprise to see her in a yellow satin ruffled dress with a matching hat playing tea party with her Barbie dolls. Sweet, yet feisty, the relationship she has with her three year old sister, Katrina could easily be described as tumultuous. Serena is extremely bright as anyone could tell if they were to share a five minute conversation with her. But, Serena has only been on the honor roll once in her life, due to the fact that she has been suffering from ADHD since she was five. However, when Serena is writing or drawing the creative juices seem to flow with very little effort.Recently, Serena approached her 'Nana' with the words, "Look Nana, I wrote a book, too." Her grandmother, who is also a published author responded with the words, "That's nice, honey." She simply t
ook the lined paper with Serena's scribbling on them and set them aside. But later, she picked them up and decided to look through them. To her amazement, she quickly concluded that the little story Serena had written was simply adorable and it actually contained a simple life lesson in it. So, 'Nana' decided to publish Serena's work. She called Serena on the phone and asked her if she could possibly draw some pictures to compliment the story. Serena replied "Sure!" and the next day she showed up at 'Nana's' house with several pictures she had drawn.Again, Serena's talent for her age with regard to her illustrations is amazing. So, 'Nana' scanned her pictures, added some color with a paint program and 'Voila'! Serena's work was on its way to getting published. Serena has published to date two children's books entitled The Four Birds and The Princess' Pets.
