I'm wondering if you know the whereabouts of YOUR closest fax machine? No I'm not joking. Seriously, do you know where it is? A few weeks back, I was asked to send some documents to my mortgage consultant. To get the requested information to them on time, the only way I could do it was to fax the paperwork over to their offices. You might recognize this sort of story. Do you have a fax machine at home? I didn't. I don't run a business from home, and as a generalization, the only people who have fax machines at home are those who work from their house. And as such, I didn't know where to find the closest publicly available fax machine before the end of office hours. In the end, I located a stationary supplier several miles from me that provided a pay per use faxing service. Needless to say, it costed some to get the 20 page document sent to the mortgage brokers! Some time later, I was speaking with an acquaintance about it all. She enquired if I knew that faxing software cou
ld be installed onto my PC to do the job. Admittedly – I didn't know. But since that time it seems that everyone I know has started to send and receive faxes from my computer. They're using the fax software that I installed! The moral here is to not tell people what you can do with your PC. But by way of example: • An insurance broker needed evidence of a matched quotation from a different broker that was required to be sent by fax. • A lawyers firm needed ID documents faxed to their office before a meeting. • A labour agency needing a fax showing employment documents. • And, of course, the mortgage resellers who wanted a letter sent by fax, which just would not have made the cutoff time if sent by USPS. So, do you know where YOUR fax machine is?
