Have you ever wondered how trends, fads, and movements get started in our society? And have you ever wondered how the current trends, even a little microtrends are going to shape our future? If these are things that interest you, then I'd sure like to recommend a very excellent book that you should read. The name of the book is;"Micro-Trends - The Small Forces behind Tomorrow's Big Changes" by Mark J. Penn, 2007.The author starts out this book by making a few statements, one that has stuck with me, and one that I think you should hear. He states; It only takes one percent to launch a social or business movement."And later he explains how small social movements become trends, he explains that they only need to attract between five and 15% of the population or the people in the group to join on-board. This is a fascinating and interesting topic. And the author goes on to predict many of the things that are going on in our society right now and how they will change the way we liv
e in the future. For instance, he suggests that more and more people will retire early, but they will continue to work. Even those who retire at retirement age will still be engaged in earning a living. He also notes the microtrends of geeks becoming more sociable, and much more accepted in society, even looked up to for advice. In fact, I tend to agree with that because if you need something fixed on your computer, they could be the best friend you ever had.He also discusses America's melting pot and how that is changing, along with 70 other microtrends that are listed in the book, nothing is too revolutionary, many of these things are quite obvious and observable.Indeed, I'd say he's on the right track. In fact, this book resides in my personal futurist library, where I have number of books on similar topics, and a good many of them agree with many of the things that he has pointed out. I suggest you read this book and consider the implications of what he is saying. Please
think on it.
