It is 2053 and the Soracchi have scorched the Earth, killing a majority of the population, keeping a handful of humans for their biological experiments. Will hope arrive in time?"End Game" grabs the reader's attention with a heart-pounding chase. The Soracchi are after Phoenix operative, Jackie Anderson. Jackie, bone-tired and weary, jumps into the Charles River, in Boston, to get away. She makes her way to the Phoenix base in Tennessee where Michael and Lilly discover one of her ovaries missing. Slowly, Jackie begins to recover.Col. Nick Tanner, Michael's father, returns with Areth and Umani scout ships. They have pledged their help to rid the Earth of the Soracchi. He has a sweet reunion
with CJ and the couple wed.With the help of the Areth's medical technology, the doctors determine that the Soracchi imprint in Victor is weak. They offer to help Victor rid himself of his Soracchi parasite. Victor agrees to the dangerous procedure. The Areth also offer to give Beverly her hearing back.Michael and Jackie grow close during her recovery. Jackie accepts Michael for who he is, and the couple make love. Shortly afterwards, the Soracchi attack and take Michael captive. Nick sends a message to the Areth and Umani armadas enroute. The armadas move with haste to arrive at Earth, but is it too late to save Michael?Delaney's writing is sharp, giving subtle clues and hints along the way as to extend of Michael's abilities. The plot flows nicely. The pacing is "spot on," slowing in the right places for the reader to get a breath before picking up again. The dialogue is realistic. Delany uses just the right amount of words to paint her futuristic world without weighing do
wn the narrative. Delaney strikes a nice flow with her action sequences, painting vivid scenes in the reader's mind.Michael and Jackie are interesting characters that prove opposites attract. Michael is quiet and tends to hold things in. Jackie is outgoing and speaks her mind. The supporting cast complements the story well. Readers are rewarded with Nick and CJ's reunion. The Areth give Victor and Beverly new hope."End Game" is sophisticated for CRR readers. Delaney's love scenes are tender and sensual, capturing the warm glow of love. The novel captures a gambit of emotions - hope, love, courage, fear, and delivers a rewarding finale to The Phoenix Rebellion series.
