'Hearts on the Run' By Summer Ericson Book Review

'Hearts on the Run' by Summer Ericson starts off innocently enough with the main character, Kate, looking to buy a car. Unfortunately the car is bought out from underneath of her by a man named Jacob. He apologizes for buying 'her' car and asks her out to lunch as a way of apologizing. She agrees to take a chance and go with him, after all it was the least he could for stealing 'her' car.Lunch turns out to be more of a first date, and that first date quickly turns into a second one. Kate finds herself drawn into this man in ways she had never imagined and as their second date ends she is already getting anxious about how she is going to behave when things start progressing to the next level. She spends the next two days waiting for him to call, but he never does. As her heart slowly breaks, she gets more and more angry and finally decides to confront him about being a jerk. Unfortunately it seems that Jacob is nowhere to be found, at least at first. Remembering that Jacob had
mentioned a cabin in the woods, she goes off in search of the man who she had been smitten and then heartbroken by.Unfortunately, once Kate finds Jacob it turns out that he wasn't just a jerk, he also had some secrets that he had been keeping. Kate soon finds herself running through the woods with Jacob and his son while the mob is hot on their tails. They escape to Kansas where Kate has to start her life over under an assumed name and living with a man she doesn't really know and his teenage son.'Hearts on the Run' by Summer Ericson is the author's debut novel in the romance genre. The book covers a lot of ground in a hurry, the author was definitely going for a frantic pace in the book, particularly in the last third where all of the characters start moving back toward each other for the final confrontation. The best thing about 'Hearts on the Run' is that the author is not afraid to hop into the heads of the antagonist, a man named Cain, or other minor characters to help t
ell parts of the story from a different perspective. While Ericson does not try to make you feel sympathy for the bad guys, he does a good job of helping you understand how they became the bad guys to begin with. All in all, it is a good, fast paced read that won't eat up too much of your time and tells a good story. A perfect romance thriller for a day at the beach or a rainy afternoon.
