"Breakfast at Sally's" could be classified under both inspirational and social interests. It is not necessarily a Christian book, but anyone who has a passion for helping others will appreciate it. It reminds us that it is only by the grace of God that we have been blessed. This story could be ours or a loved one's in a moment. The writing is not for those who may be easily offended by language and graphic descriptions of situations. However, the writer was just relaying what other characters said and did. To understand this, the reader gets a glimpse of how life among the homeless is. It is real and doesn't always fit into social norms.Richard LeMieux at one time was a successful business man who lost everything, his business, family and home. At the blink of an eye, his family was ashamed of him, he became homeless and was diagnosed with depression after a suicide attempt.Writing about his experiences kept him going and so did the companionship of his dog. When you become ho
meless, you have to take whatever form of friendship comes your way. His new friend was one that in his previous life he would never have come in contact with. He learned that in spite of the many shortcomings society might see in his friend, he was loyal and could teach others a thing or two about compassion. Not every person who offered help had good intentions. After some trying times just surviving, things finally turned around when a Methodist pastor and members of the church helped Richard rebuild his life. They showed love by their actions. Along the way, he was also helped by the Salvation Army and other individuals.Although today we are wary of helping strangers due to fear or past experiences, it is a reminder that there are ways we can all help. It begins with giving dignity to those who have lost hope. There are many organizations that need volunteers and funding to provide services. Your local church, Salvation Army, shelter, food bank, etc. is a good place to st
art. You don't have to bring strangers home with you and should place safety first, but just a smile and act of kindness can get someone through the day. Learn about the local resources in your area so you can know where to refer those in need. This book would be a good reference for those in ministry and helping professions. Before you can save someone, you have to meet them at their level.
