Wicked Prey by John Stanford is the nineteenth of the Lucas Davenport series and Stanford gives us more twists and turns than we can handle. Davenport is in the center of the Republican Convention in St. Paul and in the center of intrigue, controversies, thievery, politics, and personal grudges that just won't die down. To make matters worse for him, Randy Whitlock is reintroduced in the story and he plans to take revenge against the man he thinks made him crippled for life by targeting Davenport's fourteen-year old daughter. It is this kind of story that can occupy you the whole day and make your forget everything. I've had a hundred things to do when I bought this book but the moment I opened it and started reading, Stanford had me glued to Davenport's story. Stanford manages to pull off the classic police story and managed to give it twists that you can't just get enough of. This is, for me, more personal than the rest of his Davenport series because it involves his daughte
r. Reintroducing Whitlock as an old nemesis was a very good touch too.Suspense stories have always been one of my three favorite genres and Stanford delivers more than what book lovers like me expect. Wicked Prey shows how much Davenport loves and hates his job, how he craves for just a little break. Stanford adds a touch of realtime because he sets this in 2008 and picks a very familiar time in America, the presidential elections. This, I think, is what makes Stanford's novels very popular. Aside from his charismatic modern-day hero, of course. Wicked Prey by John Stanford is a must-read for all fans and even for first-timers as well.
