The Power of Respect by Deborah Norville

My favorite part of the book is right in the first page of the first chapter. I won't give it away, I will let you discover the treasure. Norville clearly feels very strongly about Respect. How to give it mostly. She thinks respect can cure every problem in society and she might be right!? She uses old and new case studied to make her point. I wonder just how many books Tony Hseih from Zappos is in now? He might make the Guinness book of records for most cited business case study. Tony's ability to keep his corporate culture where it needed to be helped to create the success he had with Zappos. He used the power of respect ( for the customer) to inspire workers to be innovative.Norville sites Zappos 10 core values:1. Deliver Wow through Service2. Embrace and Drive change3. Create Fun and a Little weirdness4. Be Adventurous, Creative and Open-minded5. Pursue Growth and learning6. Build open and honest relationships with communication7. Build a positive team spirit8. Do more wi
th less9. Be passionate and determined10. Be humbleThere are some other great info about how Zappos worked when Tony still owned it. I can't wait for his book to come out. But I digress. We are talking about Debra Norville's book. She shares how to get your children and spouse to be respectful and how to change schools by having respectful classrooms. I have not doubt her strategies work, I just don't understand why public school teachers ( for the most part) don't work them. She leaves the business world for last in this book. Ann Moore from Times Inc told Norville she thinks that people are overwhelmed with what hey have to do and frustrated by the amount of time they have to do it in. So she had small breakfasts with managers to get everyone on board with her new organization plan. There are some great quotes in here, I love this one: The more you accept yourself the less other's perception matter. The book ends with ways to develop self respect. These ideas are great for
anyone who has not been able to develop that and for teens are still forming the self respect. This is a good read and a good reminder for us all. This book is a California 8.
