Full Black by Brad Thor

I'm a fan of Brad Thor's and I've read all of his books. I really like the Scot Harvath character, and I've enjoyed how he has matured, changed, and developed through the series of books Thor has written. In this newest novel, "Full Black," Thor continues the saga of Scot Harvath and now he works for a private company, rather than the government, but he's still doing what Harvath does best, stopping bad guys, and it Harvath's case, bad guys are international terrorists intending to do harm to America or U.S. Citizens. "Full Black" is action packed and suspenseful, and it contains the special operations intel that Thor readers have come to expect. It's a riveting thriller that makes one think about what people are really planning and how, just like the intricate plot of this book, there are those planning intricate plots against our country. Thor has his finger on the pulse of world and writes an entertaining, yet alarming novel of suspense and action. There was something that
I noticed a bit more in this novel than some of Thor's earlier works for sure, and that is his political views. There are a number of places where he inserts his own views in political commentary. These views are very pro military when he's in that realm, and the "bad guy's" world view will remind those that keep up with current events about certain views of the world, and if you agree with Thor politically, you'll nod in agreement and enjoy the story. If you don't agree with Thor politically, and his views are conservative and pro America, you won't enjoy this book as much. I'm sure some readers won't like the amount of political commentary included in this novel. However, I must remind readers that it is the politics that drives the attacks that the hero, Harvath, must deal with.Another thing a bit different about this book was that Harvath didn't seem to be as front and center as he was in previous books. Yes, he was still a main character, and he had his share of action,
but not as much as he did in earlier works. With that said, there were other characters introduced that I liked, especially Luke Ralston, a character I wouldn't mind seeing in future books Thor writes. The book ends with a cliff-hanger, as Thor has done before. While the ends of this story were wrapped up, he does leave us hanging on the last page. Some people don't mind this, and just wait for the next novel, and it is a good strategy to get people interested in what comes next. However, some readers don't care for this kind of conclusion to a book. I'm a fan, so yes, I will read the next book, and I do want to find out what comes next.Thor creates good, fast paced, action yarns. His thrillers are current and reflect on things going on in the world today. They are fun, suspenseful, and contain both action and political commentary. I enjoyed "Full Black" as some fun escapism reading, and that's what thriller novels are for.
