A Review of "The Sweet Revenge of Melissa Chavez" by Neil Davidson

'The Sweet Revenge of Melissa Chavez: A Novel' was written by author Neil Davidson. It is a narrative written in the same spirit as "Catcher in the Rye". While this book is equally as controversial, it is an account of honesty, and any kid will tell you, if allowed to be that truthful and open, Melissa Chavez is them as well. This is a quick read of 185 pages, as you will not be able to put the book down.Mr. Davidson shows sensitive insights into a young girls psyche, unknown to most, male or female. His commitment to wonderful story telling is enhanced, by his brilliant consideration of what it would be like to be a young girl, feeling the newness of her sexuality. It is of course a confusing time for adolescence, as Mr. Davidson so sensitively eludes to. A young girl finding her way, dealing with new found experiences within her own body and her reactions to the world around her are the underlying factors, as a story of intrigue is told. A young girls epiphany into understa
nding what is going on inside her, is not an easy revelation to understand, much less write about, but it is done well here within the pages of this story. It should be noted that this may not be a book for conservative thinkers, yet it is an honest account of a true and genuine perspective, thus taking away the barriers of prudishness, one will see their own self in Melissa. Remember what is was like to be a 14 year old with classmates, siblings, parents, and all the excitement of finding your way toward adulthood. "The Sweet Revenge of Melissa Chavez" is written with certain eloquence that takes flight in ones heart and I for one am blessed for having read it.
