Host - A Rogue Mage Novel by Faith Hunter

"Host: A Rogue Mage Novel" by Faith Hunter is the third installment of her post-apocalyptic thriller. Fans who have eagerly awaited the conclusion to this epic fantasy will not be disappointed. If you're a new reader a prologue will bring you up to speed.  The aftermath of the apocalypse brought an ice age and the birth of neomages, a new species able to manipulate energy. Feared and slaughtered, they were forced to live in enclaves set up by seraphs. Thorn St. Croix, a stone mage, now has a license enabling her to live in the outside world. She owns a jewelry store in the rural Appalachian town of Mineral City where she has risked her own life to protect the people from a fallen Seraph known as the Dragon. He's been contained but it's a matter of time before he breaks free.  Thorn finds out her missing twin, Rose, might still be alive and she's determined to find her. Meanwhile the Council of Seraphs sends an emissary from her former home, the New Orleans Enclave.
Cheran Jones is a metal mage who says he's there to train her and teach her the things she never learned before she left the enclave. Thorn believes he has other agendas. Will he be an ally in the fight against the darkness or her worst enemy?  Hunter's meticulous world building provides a convincing setting for this classic tale of good versus evil. The conflict in this post-apocalyptic world continues to evolve and becomes more fascinating with each book. It's a gripping read, full of skillfully choreographed battles between humans, seraphs and demons. An absorbing first-person narrative reveals a complex heroine surrounded by strong secondary characters. The story comes to an enthralling conclusion that still leaves room for future books.    Publisher: Roc; Reprint edition (January 6, 2009) ISBN: 978-0451462466 Paperback Pages: 336Price: $6.99
