A 50-Year Look Ahead - The Best of Arthur C Clarke Sci Fi Considered

What will the world look like in the year 2061? We already know there will be no typewriters and we also probably know that computers will be even smaller in size. Perhaps, we could assume that our cell phones will read our minds and send messages to our friends. Maybe we can get a degree the from college in any subject we want on a computer chip that will plug into our brain.Interestingly enough, there will be forces and religions that will try to curtail the merging of man and machine and there will be philosophical arguments on both sides. Still, you cannot stop technology it will always move forward. Most futurists will not try to project or predict the world in 50 years. It is just too far out and things move way too fast. However, some of the greatest science fiction writers of all times and do attempt to look 50, 100,or even 200 years into the future by projecting our current technologies and breaking new research discoveries of today far off into the future. One
of my favorite science fiction writers of all times is the late Arthur C. Clarke. So what are his predictions for the year 2061? Well why not read his book; "2061; Odyssey Three" by Arthur C. Clarke; Ballantine Book Publishers and Random House, New York, NY; Date: 1997 Now then, let me explain why this book was so great and why I believe everyone should read the works of Arthur C. Clarke and the various series that made him so famous and captured the imagination of science fiction readers and intellectuals world-wide. I think the most interesting part of this book is that many of the things that Arthur C. Clarke describes will happen in the future are already taking shape. You see, Arthur C. Clarke wrote this book in 1996, just 12 years ago and some of what he predicted has already come to pass and much of what he is talking about is being researched as we speak. This is a great science fiction novel, one which you should have for your personal library.
