Perhaps the most significant book to be written this year, entitled "The Challenge of Islam to Christians", was published last Thursday, the second anniversary of the horrific Twin Towers tragedy in New York. That was my opening sentence when reviewing this volume for a newspaper.Audio and video tapes and DVD's etc of a series of six talks on this subject have been selling by the thousand. That in itself is quite remarkable.Over these past few years we have heard more about Islam than during the previous twenty years - another reason why this book should be vital and essential reading for many.Author David Pawson, considered by many to be one of the UK's finest biblical expositors, seeks to explain what he sees happening, spiritually and politically, with particular reference and insight to what is going on in Britain, before our eyes - many of them shut, blind, or simply choosing to remain apathetically unaware. He shares how the book was birthed - as a consequence of what he
witnessed across our nation. The first half deals with Islam - its background and beliefs - its appeal, attraction, high morality, and ability to hold on to men. That last phrase alone is a challenging chapter to the church of Jesus Christ.Part two deals with how Christians should respond to the present situation, as the author perceives the circumstances, which are all too obvious and clear. An uncompromising solution is presented, which some might find controversial - but no more controversial than Jesus Christ was when He spoke in certain company - and no more controversial than Peter or Paul when they were confronted with men and women who so needed the saving Word of God.The publisher, Hodder & Stoughton, classes the book as 'popular' theology. It won't be popular - more essential, than popular. This analysis is an objective account as David sees what is going on across the nation. David write, "I hope I am wrong. I hope it is a false prophecy."In the light of what we h
ave witnessed over these past years and seen on our various news bulletins this book is proving to be uncomfortably accurate. Read it. Study it. Mark it. Give a copy to your friends.Sandy Shaw
