The Think Big Manifesto by Michael Port

I enjoyed reading Michael Port's "The Think Big Manifesto." (Written with Mina Samuels) It's an encouraging and motivating book that calls for action. The action Port wants you to take is to think big and to be a positive influence on the world. There really is a positive message in this short book, and one that encourages readers to not just think big in terms of making more money or achieving status, but to think big in all areas of your life - from the way you work to the way you relate to friends, family, and your community. And as the world gets smaller due to technology, that community is ever increasing.Port admits that he wrote this book to help himself think big, and to continue to do so. He initially held back, which he says was small thinking. I'm glad he did write it, and I hope it helps many people think bigger. In this, he is calling for a revolution, The Think Big Revolution. This book is only part of that movement. (But an important part) He calls this book a
personal manifesto for thinking bigger about who we are and what we offer the world. If you really take time to think about yourself and the suggestions Port is making, it could really change your life. (How much depends on where you are starting from and how much you put into it.)The only part I disagreed with in the book was Port's views on Donald Trump and the book he co-authored on thinking big. While I get where Port is coming from, and agree that thinking big is not about taking advantage of others, I don't believe "kicking ass" means taking advantage of others like Port suggests. I believe it means doing your very best and excelling. Besides that one passage, I felt everything else in this book was spot on.I liked that the book contains many examples of people thinking big and achieving in various areas. I enjoyed the stories of those who overcame challenges to rise up and make a difference. Port's martial art and warrior references resonated strongly with me as I'm a
lso a martial artist and study and teach on how to live as a warrior and use those concepts to get an edge in life. What the book does not do is provide a plan on how to think bigger or achieve more. It really is just a wake up call to think bigger. And yes, you get that message throughout the text. But you know, so many people don't think bigger, in fact, so many people think very small, that an encouraging wake up that you can think bigger and do more just might make a difference. The key will be to take the idea that you can do more and be more, and the obtain the tools to do so. You must act on it, and act right away. This is a short book, and a simple read, but its message is powerful if acted upon. Reading it, thinking about your place in the world, and acting on it by thinking big, will make a very big difference in your life, and in those you influence. And if you are really thinking big, you'll influence very many and join what Michael Port calls the Think Big Revolut
ion.
