Tolerance in a Cuckoo Heart

In very general terms, Tolerance is supposed to be our reasonable, objective and accepting attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from our own. Those practices include, among other things, hot subjects like race, religion, nationality and sexuality. Consequently, as crucial part of our civilizatory process, as we work our way up from troglodytes to people of good, we are expected to be tolerant and learn to accept and love the ones that are different from us.We do not stand a chance with this.This is not happening, never happened before and shall never happen in the near or distant future. Tolerance is not a human attribute and the best we have ever been able to do is getting along without killing each other; and sooner than later, we always end up literally killing each other.We live in a land of immigrants and we need to be tolerant with those folks that are different from us. We do not stand a chance with this either; because we agreed that such wonderful thing
does not happen in this world of ours; however, we need to force ourselves to like those people with practices so different from our own.The pool is getting smaller. In a previous a blog we established that we dislike those immigrants that are poor. Unfortunately, there is almost no such thing as rich immigrants. Those stay put at their places of origin, where they made their fortunes and where they can relax and be actively xenophobic with anyone, different from them, which migrates to their countries.Then, we are left with middle class immigrants that come to our country with a different set of practices and beliefs, diametrically opposite manners and ways of seeing life. They come from countries where there is no order, no law; used to live in chaotic societies where respect is absent and disrespected at all times. And what do we do? Well, we dislike them with passion and sooner than later, we hate them too.I should not be that complicated. After all, we live in the best
country where wonderful men and women of good created a nation where we the people have unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and that applies to all of us, even those we do not like that much because they are too different to be tolerable.
