The New Energy Book - By Sarah Ward

Sarah Ward is known for both her first edition of the "Energy Book" as well as her involvement in the current SEA office, known as The Green Building in Westlake Business Park. Her new book, the second edition, looks at the issue around energy-saving and the challenges. She supplies answers where there are ones to give as well as approaching un-answerable questions.Managing Director of Sustainable Energy Africa, Peta Wolpe, opened the launch with an overview approach, pointing out key factors and observation from her own experience in the industry. She brought up the political side of energy-saving issues in an urban development and made an acute observation that knowledge doesn't sink in, until it affects us. She also said that "it is possible to make changes at every level and we can all be part of that change."Director of African Centre of Cities, University of Cape Town, Edgar Pieterse, who is also known for his book "Cities of the Future", orientated his talk about how S
arah Ward's book addresses politics that are both useful and needed, which have been dealt with. With his own experience in the urban development field, he addressed the large scale statistic in the matter and the patchwork of non-connectivity that Africa has.Mr Pieterse looked at the excuse that politics either don't have the will to make the changes, or they are too corrupt. He complimented Sarah's book explaining how one book, such as The New Energy Book, could change lives and urban futures.Project Manager of the Sustainable Energy and Environment for Development (SEED) Program, Megan Euston-Brown, discussed sustainable energy and African's leading energy work with cities with Sarah's book in mind. Sarah Ward then ended the launch by discussing the differences between the new book and the book she wrote six years ago.The New Energy Book brings up a variety of issues regarding politics, solutions to urban development and would appear to be the stepping-stone between curre
nt situations in energy saving urban planning and future development. If you are interested in obtaining the book, it can be purchased from:Sustainable Energy AfricaTel: 021 702 3622
