Unstuff: Making Room in Your Life for What Really Matters by Hayley and Michael DiMarco

First, right off the bat, if you are not a Christian wanting to read about improving your relationship with God, then this book is not for you. From the cover, you don't get this. In fact, from the cover, you might think this book is another of the plethera of dejunking, sorting, organizing, and getting rid of junk books that abound many shelves. In fact, you could become cluttered with all of the books on the topic. This book is different though. "Unstuff: Making Room in Your Life for What Really Matters" by Hayley and Michael DiMarco is fundamentally a call for readers to free their lives from those things keeping them from spending time with God. That is what the authors put forth as "What Really Matters" in this text. Still interested? Read further. Not your cup of tea, stop here and know this book is not for you.The book is easy to read and not that long. After a brief introduction that is called a product disclaimer, it starts with eleven reasons to unstuff. These reaso
ns include many Christian reasons, however they also contain practical reasons without the religious references. But make mistake about it, the primary reasons the authors give for getting rid of stuff, or unstuffing, is to become closer to Christ and God.And pretty much, this is how the rest of the book continues. It is divided into six sections, each focusing on an area of stuff. These sections include: wallet stuff, mind stuff, body stuff, love stuff, worship stuff, and future stuff. The goal of all of these chapters is to encourage you to become free from all of your stuff so you can live only for God's desires. There is a strong premise that the more stuff we have, the less we feel our need for community, fellowship with others, and maintaining a relationship with God. If you are a Christian and want motivation to get rid of stuff to become closer to your faith, this book just may be the book you've been looking for. However, the book doesn't contain a lot of "how to" d
e-clutter, organize, or get rid of things like you can find in many other books. The book does contain some of the author's personal challenges with stuff, and these examples may help readers with their own struggles. Therefore, if you are feeling overwhelmed with things and need some encouraging words to pare back and find time for your faith, this book may motivate you to do just that. However, if you are looking for a more practical book on organizing and getting rid of stuff, you should probably look elsewhere.
